Good morning!!!!
We were up at 5:30 this morning to shower and bundle up to walk 1.5 miles to our breakfast meeting.
Are we crazy!? Yes. But it was also amazing to get in the activity!! We felt flushed and fresh when we arrived.
During the night it SNOWED! I think walking was easier than driving. I know how to walk in snow, but de-icing a car and driving in it scares me more than a little cold.
Really the only thing that was cold on my were my thighs – they were the only body part that didn’t have two layers. My down coat kept me SUPER warm!
We arrived at our destination right on time!
Met up with the 5 or so other owners in training and the few GH employees joining us. Matt and I sat across from Melissa who is the new RD here on staff! We talked about oatmeal (and both had it for breakfast!)
The restaurant had ZERO fruit on the menu, so I was lucky to have packed a banana for a snack and added that into my bowl
Banana, Raisins, Peanut Butter and a drizzle of milk! It was delicious. I didn’t quite finish it all because I also got an egg!
Also had a few cups of coffee
We had to QUICKLY walk through the snow over to the headquarters – this walk was colder! I think it’s below zero out there!
I walked as fast as I could!!
Blizzard!
10 minutes later we were there – the offices here are great, and everyone is SO friendly! (As you would imagine
)
And now cozy inside and getting my learn on!
It’s a miracle how fast I posted – we have quite a few breaks and I’m able to log onto the wireless here.
Have a great day guys!

Glad to see you made it and everything’s going well! Looks COLD!!!
Brrr this post is making me cold! I think you did a great job of dressing up your oatmeal with the just-in-case nanner. Way to be prepared!
Looks like a great trip so far
Thanks for sharing all of your adventures!
Thanks for keeping us all updated. It’s fun to see what you’re up to while you’re away from home!
And I was complaining about a sunny 29 degree day. I guess I’ll bite my tongue on that one, lol.
I’ve always loved diner food. I can’t cook an egg to save my life so that’s what I order when I go out.
LOVE that you guys walked. Have fun learning!
Wow, you’re much braver than I am. As much as I love walking, I definitely would have used the car for that one!
I love your boots, and I need a coat like that for the blizzard in Georgia today! I’m wearing my running shoes out in it…
I love the scenery up there! Have fun!
You two are CRAZY!!! Haha…in a good way
Glad you’re having fun and learning a lot!
Walking in the snow is way better than driving in the snow. By the time you get the car ready to go, you’ve spent about the same amount of time outside anyway. Your pictures make me glad that I don’t live up north, though
Way to go braving the snow and frigid temps
I really need to invest in some new boots, ha ha. Sounds like we (Kentucky) may be getting a big snow tonight into tomorrow!
Gorgeous but wow, so dark in the morning! A beautiful part of the country I’d like to visit one day.
It looks beautifully chilly outside! I can’t believe the restaurant didn;t have any fruit- they should have given you a discount for bring your own fruit!
Looks like you are having a blast!
Way to go and brave the cold!!! It is cold here too but I do not dare go outside!!! WAY TO GO!!!!
HAVE a great day!!!
You are so brave walking in that freezing cold and snowy weather! That restaurant looks cute! I hate when restaurants don’t have any fruit. I love having at least one piece of fruit for breakfast. Montana looks beautiful so far!
Just seeing you all bundled up in your down coat and uggs is making me shiver at how cold it must be there! Stay warm and happy training
I totally admire you guys walking in the cold! I guess it would be safer than driving!
Your breakfast looks wonderful! GH seems like a truly wonderful company.
Go you for getting up and walking through the snow! I would rather walk in the snow than drive as well!
Have fun!
Fun to see where you are! That’s a lot of snow. I love that y’all walk everywhere. I’m with you – I trust my legs and feet more than I trust my ability to drive in snow or ice. Enjoy your day!
now you can relate to us here in Northern Wisconsin…days like that are more the norm, than the exception, this time of year!
love,
cathy b. @ brightbakes
I think I got cold just reading this post
Have a great day!
yay! i’m glad your first day is off to a good start. i’ve lived in wisconsin my whole life and i’m still not a fan of the cold. props to you guys for braving it so much already!
I love that oatmeal is on menus now! It snowed in Atlanta today too and it is freezing weather for us! Have fun today!
Great pics! Glad it’s going well.
Mom
Glad to see that you guys haven’t had any travel issues with the snow! (aside from the initial delays.)
Wow Montana looks so cold!!! Good for you for walking everywhere that is some serious motiivation! I don’t think I would be able to brave the cold and walk outside that far on a day like that!
I completely agree about it probably being safer to walk than drive! Thank goodness for great coats!
I love the fact that even in a restaurant, you can make an impressive bowl of oatmeal
I love how youre posting during your breaks and rockin’ multiple computers there it looks like! You go girl!
Stay warm, the weather looks..brutal! That’s the kind of weather I am sooo glad I don’t live in any more. Stay warm!
My thighs always get SO cold too- I’ve learned to wear leggings under my pants for maximum warmth. I’d rather be hot inside than freeeeeezing outdoors!
Don’t you love conversations about oatmeal? Food is such a great conversation-starter.
Happy day and glad you found some oatmeal!
i love hearing about the whole process of buying a GH! So interesting!
As a MT native I do not miss hearing below zero forecasts!!! I thought cvilles weather was bad this a.m. with 20*!! brrrr…
drive careful!
p.s. cute cute cute sweater!
It looks like so much fun! Good luck walking back later in the cold.
Brrr, that looks freezing! But that breakfast looks like a good way to get warm
Love how you created your own bowl of oats in a diner! Aaaand that walk looks frigid (but still better than driving!)
Looks like your trip is off to a good start! Don’t freeeeeeze up there!!
Raisins are a fruit, yes? But I know what you mean.
I think I’m with you on the whole driving in the snow thing, sometimes it’s easier to walk. Have fun (and stay warm)!
We’re having a snowy day too so I can empathize. I’d love to be able to go for a brisk walk in it but I’m stuck underground for the day.
Snowy and cold most of the winter in Cleveland. I need to take a cue from you and go outside anyway! But with 2 layers on my legs–always 2 layers!
Looks like you are going to have a great time this week.
how fun! i actually love walking when it’s cold outside…but i hate the thawing out process! sounds like an amazing trip so far
although i don’t envy your having to walk in a blizzard, there is nothing quite like coming in from a crazy snowstorm and getting all cozy
Two words–long underwear. Just the pants would be enough if you have layers on top. I prefer the (washable) silk kind–they keep me warm when outside but I do not overheat when inside. I live in MN and wouldn’t be without them.
Your choice to walk rather than drive was also smart–not just for driving safety. You stay warmer when moving rather than sitting in a cold car. It would not have time to warm up in a mile and a half.
MT is such a great state. Enjoy your time there!
sounds eventful! Stay warm!
i SO agree! would much rather walk then drive through the snow.
you’d fit right in up here today in sourthern ontario (canada) – it’s VERY chilly!
all the best with your training!
I love how much alking you guys are fitting in! Have a great day!
Your post is making me cold! I hope your jacket is as warm as it looks.
How exciting! The snow must chill you guys to the bone. You’re just not used to it… in fact, I’m not sure ANYONE gets used to it. It looks pretty for a day or so then enough.
Hope you get some good learning in. Things are progressing. SUPER!
You guys are brave. I couldn’t do that walk unless I was wearing thermal leggings or nylon stocking under my pants.
Thanks for keeping us updated. I always eat oatmeal when I read your posts =]
Loving these Montana posts!
Wow, I can’t believe you walked 1.5 miles OUTSIDE in MONTANA in JAN! That’s hardcore! Maybe I should get one of those down coats so I can stop being such a wimp about the cold here in MD!
Ah this must be so exciting! Congrats on it all.
Looks like you two are having a great trip! And what a cold place… brrr!!!
Kath, I have a question for you, and I hope you could truly help me with this one. I really like your blog and have been reading it for a good while, even though I don’t comment that frequently (I used to but went back to school for a masters degree last year and things have been busy).
I also love blogging, and I would like to improve my blog. I have read here that you went to a few blog conferences this year and I would love to go to one. My question to you is, which blog conference would you advise me to go? I would like to learn more about how to improve my blog and also to meet new people and bloggers.
Do you have any advice on this? I saw that the FitBlog conference is coming in May, are you attending that, it is a good one? I would love to attend a good blog conference where I could really learn!
My interests are on a healthy and balanced life, exercise and especially nutrition, which is what I am studying for – I am working on my masters in nutrition and plan on becoming an RD.
Thanks and I hope you have a few minutes to help me out with this. I know you are busy, but you are always so nice on your blog to your readers, so I decided to ask someone that not only knows about the blogworld but is also quite nice!
Thanks in advance!
Ana
The Healthy Living Summit!! We’re shooting for the fall. I have a whole page on the blog events on my Blog Events page for more info on my experiences
Thanks Kath! I remember reading your posts about the Healthy Living Summit, I will read them again and look up the website for more info!
Thank you so much!
Ana
Kath, do you know when (and where? although I am most concerned with When) the HLS is going to be this year? I would love to go!
Thanks
Ana
No plans have been made yet!
Wow it really does look cold over there! Stay warm!
Oh I am so excited for you! It must be an amazing feeling that you’re doing the tangible things required for your dream to materialize. Can’t wait to hear more about it!
brrr–I hope you guys stay warm this week! You need one of those face-masks for when you’re out walking
My goodness it looks cold!
Good call on not driving. It got really icy here last night and driving this morning was terrifying!
Wow it looks cold! Have fun
I hope is warmer in Montana when I go in May. I probably would have walked as well. Good luck with training!
brrrrrrrrrrr i am cold just LOOKING at those photos!!!
Oh, to be in a place that can handle the snow…commence the VA snow freak-out with the threat of 2 inches! Stay warm!
I am so excited for you both! Feels like we’re all on this journey with you. Thanks for including us.
Can you imagine how cold it would be if it were humid there? The dry air makes it more tolerable.
Looks so much like fun; glad y’all get to experience this.
I am so happy for you guys!
Wow–it looks so cold and dark. Impressed that you walked!
Wow, I thought it was cold here in NY!! Oatmeal with milk poured on top sounds so good.
You two are B.A. for walking that far in such cold temps so early in the morning! Love it.
You sure had a busy morning! At least your coat kept you warm through all that. I’ve yet to find one that withstand that kind of weather.
wow, I am SO impressed you took that walk early in the morning -very impressive and inspiring!
Oh my goodness, below zero? I don’t think I’ve ever felt that temperature before…
Oh my it looks so cold, brrrrrrr.
Austin GH pin seems a little low.
Stay warm!
Kath – how are those boots holding up to the snow? For example, when they get wet, are they staining, and is the wet soaking in to your feet? I need a pair as I will be going from hot as heck to snow in a couple weeks and am not sure what would be good for daily walking to a class, etc. It seemed that you gave them rave reviews when you got them.
They are holding up well! They haven’t really been drenched in water, but they are SUPER warm and I love how high they come up my legs. I certainly wouldn’t be very happy on this trip without them. I also have a leather protector on them, which I’m sure is helping a bit in the elements. It was sent with them and is by Birkenstock.
Thanks so much for this info!
Teehee, I love how you always seem to have a banana on hand… me, I *always* have dark chocolate in my purse!
I love how you called your coats. “Montana Coats” I live in Montana and those are definitely Montana worthy!
Hi Kath! I have been creeping for about a year now. I love your blog and read it just about every day. You have helped so much during my own personal food revolution. Also, I think your coat is great and think I need to get one, as we are moving to CT from TX sometime in the next year and need to be ready for the Northeast winters. What is the brand? Thanks so much for all that you do and share!
Hey April! It’s from Land’s End – I got it on sale for $48 last December! LOVE it!
