Sculpt class was oh-so-fun today. Lots of lifting and muscle burn!!! I actually left class a few minutes early with Victoria because I was meeting a friend for lunch and had to have time shower. It was like playing hooky from real class!! So mischievous
I quickly showered and dressed and ate a few almonds to take the edge off my hunger…
…and I arrived at EarthFare to meet Kelly for lunch! We went to Davidson together and were both history majors! We just reconnected and need to hang out more since she’s just up the road. Kelly is an IRONMAN and is going PRO. She’s an amazing athlete and works as a personal trainer. Future business partners perhaps!?
I loaded up on delicious EarthFare salad bar bites…..a little heavy on the orange and light on the green! I went crazy with the butternut squash + sweet potatoes
Also found some yummy tofu, hummus, pineapples, and green beans. We were talking so much I actually didn’t quite finish it all – imagine that!?
I also gave Kombucha another try. I had it once before and it was just OK. I like to live dangerously (said in Austin Powers accent) so I got the GREEN flavor instead of the safe looking raspberry.
Report: it was awesome!! Reminded me of a blend of apple juice, ginger ale and BEER. The green grit floating around was a little strange, but the flavor was really nice. Can’t wait to drink it again (but my wallet already says no
)
Packing up for class now. TTYL!

I liked the Kombucha I tried, but I agree – it is spendy, but TASTY!
I have a Divine Grape Kombucha in my fridge right now and still haven’t tried it out. Time to get adventerous!
I have never tried a kombucha but it sounds so nutritious. Today I gave a persimmon a try and I think I’m allergic
It actually kind of scared me to have a reaction IN Whole Foods.
Was it the right kind/ripe enough? The first time I tried one I just bit in and my mouth went super dry and I felt like I was having an allergic reaction. Then I found this link: http://www.tonytantillo.com/fruits/persimmons.html. If not though, yikes!
Ive never had a kombucha! I’m too scared to try!
That salad looks great! Now that I finally like Kombucha I wish I didn’t….I want it all the time and it is WAY too expensive!
oooh I wish we had an Earth Fare in Australia – the salads look great!
I have never met anyone who is an Ironman. I want to do an ironman one day. Love the salad!
I love the strawberry flavor! sometimes you can find it on sale
Oh and you can apparently make your own! It involves fermentation, get Matt on it!
I’m glad you liked it but it sounds like a recipe for disaster for me!
Salad looks amazing, as expected
Your salad looks oh so scrumptious!
wow a real iron man! that’s like eating w/ a celebrity!
your salad looks great. glad you enjoyed your second try of kombucha!
I LOVE Kombucha tea! I live in Houston and you can only get them at Whole Foods…
The best flavors in my opinion are:
Multi-Green (like you had today)
Cosmic Cranberry
Superfruits
Passionberry
I am totally addicted! However, I don’t drink much (am a total light-weight) and the first time I drank one (I was at work) I got a BUZZ! I was scared to drink them while driving and while at work after that. Is that crazy?
And whatever you do, everyone, DO NOT shake them. At all. They will spew all over you. And then it’s stinks like vinegar. I can almost hear the “cha-ching” when it happens since they are so pricey.
Love your blog, this is my first post. Thanks for the kale chips recipe – I make it all the time!
A buzz!? Really!? I didn’t know it really had alcohol.
Yes, there’s a little blurb on the bottle that says, “Please note. Due to the fermentation, this product may contain a trace amount of alcohol (less than .5%).”
Also, bought some Scottish Oats this morning and tried them – YUM! Love Bob’s Red Mill products. My favorite is their 5 Grain hot cereal.
Cheers, have a great day!
Kombucha definitely grows on you! In NYC you can buy it “on tap” at certain Whole Foods locations. It’s cheaper that way!
I love Kombucha, but the multi-green always scares me a bit. Glad to know how it tasted, I will have to try that next time. It’s so good and fizzy, I don’t even notice the vinegar smell. It’s just kombucha to me!
I wish we had an EarthFare in Orlando, that lunch looks delish and nutrish.
For my thoughts on K O M B U C H A please see here: http://rhodeygirltests.com/2009/10/06/i-am-not-a-fan-of-kombucha/
That is all.
how fun to reconnect with an old friend! i’ve never had kombucha, and I doubt I will ever try it – I’m too cheap! plus it sounds kind of gross… glad you liekd it though!
I’m always so jealous of your Earth Fare trips!
I love kombucha and was in a similar predicament for months. I wanted to drink it everyday–but at $4 a bottle–WAY too much.
Now I brew and bottle it at home for 1/100th of the cost off the shelf. There are numerous tutorials online (Google:”make kombucha”) and you can even start it from an unfinished bottle of store-bought.
Aw what a fun lunch! Looks goood too!
I love kombucha way too much. But you’re definitely right – it costs a pretty penny!
That salad looks delicious and so colorful!
I haven’t tried kombucha yet but I keep seeing it everywhere. Ironman?? Kelly, you are amazing!
glad you got to meet up for lunch with kelly! i have never tried earth fare before but it looks great by looking at your salad!
jenna
I wish I could go to EarthFare… it always looks fantastic!!
I’m scared to try kombucha, to be honest. Perhaps it’s the idea of it… or the idea of green grit floating around in my beverage.
I wish I had an EarthFare nearby—the food looks so delicious! No shame in loading up on orange
I just love the salads you get at EarthFare. They seriously look PERFECT!
I am in love with kombucha and synergy. They are SO addicting!
that green one doesn’t sound half bad. Maybe I should give that one a try. I remember the first time I tried one, I thought they were disgusting but they are sort of growing on me (but not my wallet!).
That salad looks like my lunch. Your dedication to the blog is incredible. Those almonds would have totally bypassed the camera and gone into my mouth.
I love chatty meals! They make everything that much better!
I’ve never tried Kombucha but everyone raves about it! My biggest deterrent is that it’s so expensive!
That salad looks super good! Sometimes orange is just more appealing than green
Yogi Tea makes a great Kombucha Green Tea that is much more budget friendly ($4-5 per box of 16 tea bags) you can brew at home. This particular flavor is really tasty and good for you! Kombucha is made with a mixture of healthy bacteria and yeast which produce probiotic acid making it great for the digestive system. It is also good for circulation and gently detoxifying.
I love the guava kumbucha. I like the fact that it is not sweet. I don’t do well with added sugar in my drinks or even savory dishes with sweet stuff in them
Oooooh… is that a Stickley furniture store behind you??? Loooooooove it!
Really? I hated the green one! I do like the fruity ones though.
mmmm delicious orange salad, thats the best color this time of year!! (or any time for that matter!) never tried kambocha, but gingerale and beer?!?! sign me up!
Oooh just saw Kombucha in a store here in Hawaii so might have to try it too! But it was expensive! Like $7, Is that normal?
It’s like $3.69 here.
Kelly is a bad azz but we already established that
If eating lunch with an Ironman is like eating with a celebrity (per Julie’s comment) then what’s sleeping in one’s house like? HAHA! But really, Kelly could kick my butt ANY day! MAD props.
Earthfare salads always look about 1,000 times better than Whole Foods salads.
Sleeping in one’s house is an out of body experience!
That’s funny about the Kombucha. I always go with the safe looking colors too and just think it tastes like fruity vinegar water. I keep coming back to them to try more for some reason…agreed they are $$$ I think you just sold me on the green one though
Huh…A personal “trailer”?? is that a typo or is this a new profession I haven’t heard of??!
Yes, oops!
I’m totally scared to try Kombucha. I always mix up the word with kabocha (the squash) which I’m definitely NOT scared to try – it’s delicious.
The thought of stuff floating in my drink freaks me out. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to try that stuff.
I have a bad habit of getting too much stuff on top of my greens that I leave them in the bottom. I’m getting better at judging though.
I LOVE Kombucha (posted about it yesterday!), but I was scared to try the multi-green flavor for so long…then I tried it, and I loved it!!!
It was much sweeter than I expected.
I used to have to make a special trip to buy them, which kind of curbed my spending, but they’ve started selling them at my everyday grocery store now…dangerous, dangerous
GET THE GUAVA GODDESS KOMBUCHA NEXT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. SERIOUSLY.
i find kombucha reminds me of champagne! i like to have it as my special bubbly drink at parties, since i don’t drink alcohol.
That is an EXCELLENT IDEA!
Yep I had a Kombucha today too and it exploded all over my car!!!!!
Kombucha=kabocha?
the meal looks very yum
he he
Oooh you do know how to live on the edge! Check out that green!! I was safe today and had strawberry kombucha
Yum, but my wallet hates it :/
so great hanging out today! one day we will do business together
i have been asked before, if i could have one food to live on, what would it be…now i would have to say GREAT HARVEST bread!
Hahahah! SO great to catch up!
Apple juice, gingerale and Beer???? Now there’s a combo!
I’m SO jealous of EarthFare. I wish we had ones up here!! PS – I saw your tweeting about running a marathon. YOU CAN DO IT!!
the cranberry kombucha is great too! I don’t like the sweeter ones. I want to try making it at home (to save some money!) but it scares me just a little.
Oh Kombucha, how I love thee, but yes I agree- my wallet does not love thee.
I seriously wish there was an Earthfare near me! The salad bar sounds amazing.
Nothing beats reconnecting with friends . . . which I am pretty bad at
Glad the kabocha worked for you this time around! I’ve yet to make the leap–but I’m eager!
You’re braver than me. I won’t even try the “safe” flavors.
Earthfare sounds awesome! Can’t wait to try it
My SO and I find out next week if we are moving to Rock Hill, SC or not. His company offered him at position at the HQ. If the relo package is good, we’re leaving cold Chicago!
