^^ Circa 2001!
We had a great time at the reunion – it was so fitting for Orange High. Back in the day we had parties in fields with bonfires, stables on our campus and a lot of country roads to roam. Times have not really changed!
We had a party in a field, at a barn, near stables and down a long country road. A hotel ballroom would not have been suitable.
Huge thanks to Ms. Devon Isaacs [original last name!] for coordinating the event!! Devon and I were great nerd friends together. Apparently I taught her to run and we played hangman and yahtzee together. And I remember doing thousands of back walkovers on her front lawn!
I was also thrilled to be able to spend the afternoon with my wonderful friend Becca and her two beautiful girls!!
Most likely to succeed!
Tiffany is also a good friend from high school and an avid KERF reader – we had fun discussing blogging in a "I knew you when you were little" context : )
Lots of kids in attendance!
There was a buffet of BBQ and sides, but since we’d just had lunch and weren’t ready for dinner, I just snacked on a hushpuppy – mmm cornmeal!
Also ate an apple I brought from home
Matt was a great sport!
Lydia showed up fashionably late after work and we didn’t get enough time to catch up! I got to hang with Kirst all afternoon and evening! Kirst and I go back to church nursery together.
I got to speak to almost everyone (it’s amazing how well names came back!) but out of our class of 300 wish more people had come!! [And we missed you Matt Compton!]
As the sun set, Matt, Kirst and I headed back to town for dinner. We went to Gulf Rim, which is an amazing funky restaurant with a gulf coast them.
Gulf Rim has been a number of restaurants throughout the years, but it was Lu-e-G’s for most of my childhood – tuna pitas and $1 bagels and cream cheese!! Going in there still reminds me of that vibe.
I tried Abita’s Andygator, which was a malty doppelbock that I loved.
I could not resist an order of fried plantains – LOVEEEEE these!
For dinner I had the Salmon and Spinach Enchiladas that came with an amazing cinnamon slaw and a side of black beans. THIS MEAL WAS SO GOOD!! (And it helped that I was starving so it tasted extra good!)
Kanz got the Flying Mayan, a burrito stuffed with sweet potato and black beans. Can’t recommend both of these dishes enough!
After dinner we went next door for Matthew’s Chocolates!
Matt and I shared a Mexican Spiced, a Peanut Butterfinger pumpkin and Hazelnut Bark. All three were amazing!
We were too tired to go out partying – guess that means we’re not in high school anymore!

Sounds like so much fun! Reunions can be hit or miss, so I’m glad this one was a success.
Yum for those chocolates!

Yes, Fairly Light original plus warmth and pure radiance
Keep it up Kath. Looking fabulous. Just wondering if you know of any blogs for a 60 yo.
My mom is 57 and just started one! http://friendfortheride.wordpress.com/
Thanks Kath. I will check it out.
Aw! ….We had the husband’s 10 year reunion last weekend! There were only 10 in his graduating class and 8 of them made it back. It was a good time but being the outsider was kind of crazy- so I’m glad Matt was a good sport for you!
You looked beautiful for your 10 year reunion! ….I bet it was great to be there all sorts of successful and beautiful! Life if good!
Fun reunion! I went to my 15 year a few years ago. It was kinda amazing.
Glad you had such a good day!
It looks like the weather was perfect for an event like that! I love the yearbook flashback photos.
Sounds like a fun time! You mentioned there were lots of kids there, and that made me wonder: Do you plan to have kids?
Definitely – so long as we are lucky enough to have them!
Awwww fun! I love your dress!
Your meal sounds/looks scrumptious too–such a great night, eh??
That is one beautiful beer + sounds like a fun reunion — MAN I need a hushpuppy!
never heard of anything like spinach and salmon enchiladas… sounds delicious!! what a fun day. i would say you definitely lived up to your “most likely to succeed” superlative
That dinner looks rockin’! I hope my HS does a reunion. We shall see.
That looks so fun! I can’t wait till my HS reunion- such fond memories! Gotta love Facebook for making it infinitely easier to reconnect!
How fun to catch up w friends from high school and the surroundings associated. And the plantains and the pumpkins on that plate look delicious.
Glad to hear you had a great reunion trip!
What a fun looking reunion!
This is such a beautiful post! Everything feels so warm, candid and just stunning!
And nothing beats the bond between with high school friends, even if it is not always possible to see one another all the time
Cuuuute jacket! Looks perfect for fall! Where’s it from??
Thanks! Just got it at Loehmann’s
I’ve been following you for awhile. I had to comment because my friends call me Kirst too and you don’t see that very often.
I love your pose for your senior picture. I’m sure it stood out with everyone else looking directly at the camera. I think you lived up to your senior superlative:)
hushpuppy, fried plantain and Peanut Butterfinger pumpkin…wow, you had an awesome evening in food.
And in good company…what a blast seeing everyone.
I have never been to any of my reunions. Maybe I should try it, huh!
I had to smile a little when I saw the senior photo to the right of yours in the yearbook. She used the FFA motto as her quote, and it reminded me of my time in FFA. Oh, the memories.
Hahaha I like that you were voted most successful
How fun! I graduated in 2001 too, but didn’t make it to my reunion
Hopefully the 20! I think you should post more high school pictures – so fun to look back!
Cinnamon slaw? Sweet potato & black bean burrito? Gahhhh it all sounds SO GOOD.
Glad to see that you had a fun time! My graduating class in high school was close to 1000 (yup..that big), so it’s funny for me to imagine attempting a reunion for all of us. I still have quite a way to go until that happens, though, but I’m looking forward to it!
That reunion sounds so fun! And those meals, divine.
I really like your navy blue dress! It’s so simply, yet elegant. Lovely.
Looks like you had a great time. I don’t think I’d ever go to a school reunion, lol.
It also doesn’t surprise me that you were voted most likely to succeed!! You are definitely a go-getter.
Love the peanut butterfinger pumpkin! Sounds like you had a blast!
I went to mine back in 2006. (Ack, I dont even want to talk about how my 10 year reunion was 5 years ago!!) It was fun to see people but I kind of feel like nowadays with Facebook, you already know what everyone looks like! Glad you had a good time though.
Ha,ha… I’m right there with you… feeling ancient! Class of ’96!
~
That reunion looks so much more fun and relaxed than a reunion at some ballroom. I’m glad you guys had a great time!
My 10 year reunion will be here before I know it, but I wonder how many people will show up (due to Facebook—we all know what everyone else is up to!)
As always, you did an awesome job of photographing this event…you capture the ‘moments’ at these gatherings especially well! I’d hire you in a minute for such an occasion!
Safe travels home, Kath!
FUN! Go figure you would get ‘most likely to succeed’! And success has definitely found you
My high school reunion was meh, but then again I haven’t really missed those days…
Dinner looks (and sounds) SO GOOD!
Sounds like your reunion was a fun one!
I went to Orange High too – obviously not the same one, but it’s still neat.
What a great reunion!!! I love that it was not locked up inside some hotel somewhere. You looked great in those pictures. Did you think anyone had really changed significantly since you last saw them? Maybe another ten years.
That dinner is EXACTLY my favorite food! Plantains are heavenly and the cinnamon slaw sounds very interesting.
Glad you had a fun time.
Wow this looks like such a nice reunion and a ton of fun to catch up with so many old friends. And the sound of your high school parties reminds me of the movie- dazed and confused, where they party in big open fields. We had beach parties and bonfires, which is similar. I miss those!
Glad you had such a good time.. its always nice to return to your old stopping grounds
I actually can’t wait for my high school reunion next year. It looks like such a great event! I love that it was outside and in a barn. Very rustic.
It’s funny, my sister went to Orange High School in Orange, CA and her mascot was a panther too!
That looks like an awesome food adventure! I LOVE plantains- in any form! Glad you had fun at your 10-year reunion- mine should have been a big field party too because I definitely went to a high school out in farm country (literally, in the middle of a cow field)!
your high school reunion looked like fun! Mine definitely won’t be like that, I went to a small private school, haha there are actually few people I’d want to catch up with. Makes me wish I had lived in a small town! Glad you enjoyed seeing everyone!
They hit the nail on the head when they voted you as “Most Likely to Succeed” in high school
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
I just recently read through my old yearbook and I can´t wait for a reunion! Only if it´s nearly as fun as yours
Class of 2001, woo hoo! Me too. I missed my 10 year reuni however.
thats so funny, i was on the newspaper at unc with your most likely to succeed partner!
Awesome!! Matt Compton is such a character
Matthew’s Chocolates is so good, I always liked to go in for a treat when I would visit Hillsborough. I actually know a girl that graduated from Orange High School in 2001.
Who!?
Allison Knight, she just walked into my on-campus apartment the first week of college. I guess she went to orientation with one of my roommates. She always seemed to be around through mutual friends, she always seemed to know everyone! I guess she is in China now teaching students English otherwise I am sure she would have been at the reunion.
Oh yeah!!! She and I were in dance company together for years. She’s very sweet
Oh wow, our yearbook staff made us dress up in funny stuff for our superlative photos, but that skirt is a DOOZY!
Your high school reunion looks like way more fun than mine was!!! Mine was last spring — and, like you, we also didn’t party till late. Made me feel OLD. 28 isn’t old, though . . . right? Hahaha. Right. Anyway, that hazelnut bark looks delish, which is why this preggo foodie shouldn’t be reading blogs before bedtime <3
Looks like a fun reunion, Kath! Mine was this summer and actually WAS two nights of partying until 3-4 am. And then it took me like 5 days to recover and get my sleeping back on track.
OHS ’03, yo. So funny! I worked on that yearbook… Total journalism nerd.
Oh yeah!? I worked on it too! Journalism with Mr. Cameron?
Yes, ma’am! And I had an unbearable crush on Matt Compton.
HAHA – really?! Did we know each other? Maybe we were in different levels of that class?
I would have been a soph when you were a senior… So I think I was in journalism II and you would have been in III or IV?
And yes. I was horribly, pitifully, head over heels, crushing on MC. Oy. High School.
Haha. Love it. Did you know my sister?
What’s your sister’s name?
Laura Younger… class of ’04
I think so. This is so funny! I’m just a casual reader and had no idea you were from H-Vegas. Hooray for the Panthers!
We got to tour the Abita brewery on our trip to NOLA this summer…I too fell in love with the AndyGator!!!
Looks fun! But, uh… were you mildly horrified that the (male) most likely to succeed was sitting at a desk and the (female) most likely to succeed was made to pose as if answering the phone like a secretary? I might’ve made a pointed statement!
