A glimpse into our back yard!
We currently have a tiny little porch off the kitchen – the new blogging perch!
HOWEVER, we have plans to build a screened-in, three-season porch out here sometime in the relatively near future! Something were I can really spread out with my foodscapes : )
Do you see our newly inherited trampoline beyond!? If anyone in Cville wants to buy it from us for super cheap, send me an email!
Beyond the porch we have this awesome built in deck – perfect for parties! Needs some pruning first..
The stairs could use a little TLC too..
And then we have oatmeal!!
I am LOVING my new kitchen!!! Although it’s updated, at first I was thinking I might find it too small to grow into, but now that I’m cooking in it, I’m loving the space!! I’ve never had a U-shaped kitchen (only galley-styles) and the experts are right about work triangles!
Rolled oats with frozen banana (we are out of fresh!), chia seeds, cottage cheese, Jam According to Daniel, Sunflower butter and coconut.
Adagio coconut tea – mmm! I need a cute tea kettle. Going to go by some of our recycled goods shops to look for something vintage charming soon.
I’m home this morning. Still can’t even think about going to formally exercise – my body needs to rest when it’s not unpacking! The house feels so much more livable now, but I still have 1,000 small things to do.
At noon I’m going to the bakery for lunch, some work, a radio marketing thing with Matt, then a phone call, grocery pick-up and then dinner. More home improvement projects to come!

The backyard looks adorable! Congrats again on your new home!
Love your new house and I’m excited to see more photos of all your decorating! Just had to tell you that I had a very Kath breakfast this morning. French toast made with GH Apple Crunch bread. So good! Your posts have definitely made my Great Harvest habit worse.
Apple Crunch!
I almost had French toast with Cville Crunch
Love your backyard so much!! Porches are such a necessity for me, right now I’ve got a concrete slab out of my front door and that’s just not cuttin’ it. PB&J+banana oats! So yummy.
What a lovely bowl of oats! I haven’t had cottage cheese in ages… It looks delicious in your concoction! Super cute mosaic table… is that a flower stand?? You;re going to have so much fun with your back yard and porch project!
loving the new house so far! i bet it’s beyond exciting to finally own a home. enjoy your rest time while you can. can’t wait to make my way across the mountain from harrisonburg -> cville to finally try some great harvest!
Lovin’ all the GREEEEEEN!
That is the perfect backyard for entertaining! You should totally keep the trampoline.
Your backyard is adorable! I hope you use that trampoline a few times before selling it!
I like big backyards and I cannot lie.
The kitchen work triangle is no joke! I only didn’t have it in once apartment, I’ve been luncky. But, that apartment was such a giant pain in the butt to cook in b/c of that, I found myself dreading dinner time.
Love your backyard!
Your backyard and porch area are beautiful! It looked like a perfect morning to be sitting outside too. Congrats again on your new home!
I feel like y’all have a knack for finding the BEST backyards
That is an adorable backyard! I am super jealous. I can’t wait to have some land some day… and a grill!
Beautiful yard! That trampoline looks dangerously close to those trees – for short-people use only?
I sampled some of Daniel’s jams at the farmers market last weekend and they are AMAZING. Loved the Fig + Lime!
What a perfect little photo nook! It’s like it was put there just for you!
And I may also be a little jealous of your green backyard (mine is cement).
Ohhh I love the backyard!!! We have a deck out back too and it is sooo nice, but a 3-season screened in porch would be amazing!!!
Super cute backyard! Such great space!
All of your spaces have been so beautiful. I always think, it must be Virginia or NC, or the state. But I think it’s your eye for design, clearly!
LOVE the backyard!!!
as an interior designer, Ive seen that U shaped kitchens are also the most effiecient!
(you can still have a working triangle with other kitchen styles)
Looking lovely! What a lovely yard.. maybe get a doggy to enjoy all that nice backyard space? (or babies haha)
Also– you really should take that trampoline for a spin with Matt before you sell it!
Love that lil perch and the deck in the yard!
Keep the trampoline! It’ll make you feel like a kid again. LOL!
LOVE (and am so jealous of!!) the backyard!!!
The back yard looks gorgeous Kath!! And if those are ladies Asics on the step, I have the same ones! Good luck with the rest of your unpacking. I’ve got to help my mum move this weekend and I know it will be a workout in itself!
Wowee love love the backyard! It’s gorgeous!
okay, you must tell me where that bowl is from… open sky? also, congrats on the new home
very exciting!
Yep!! Salsabol

Just beautiful! And you see so happy. That makes me happy.
I am
Your back yard is great! And I love the bowl your morning oats were in! Have a great Wednesday!
Aww don’t sell your trampoline! It’d be a really fun workout
I agree! My cousins (who lived next door) had one when I was in high school – I loved it, and probably still would
I love your backyard, especially the deck! Our old apartment had an L-shaped kitchen with a BIG pantry and lots of counter space. Our current place has a smaller, galley-style kitchen, but I think they both have their advantages. One of my requirements when we end up getting a new place is a kitchen with a lot of counter space or an island!
I agree with Laura
You should totally keep the trampoline! It’ll be so fun to have during BBQs. I love your new space AND that green bowl. Congratulations again!
best blog post title!
I can see your cleaning products working wonders on those steps!!
The garden looks fantastic! What a great new house
What a beautiful porch!! Congratulations on the new house!!! The backyard is gorgeous!!!
If I were you,I would reconsider keeping the trampoline.
I have been reading lately how it is a great workout and
fun too-could be the perfect thing when you are not in the mood for
a “formal ” workout!
Supposedly it is second only to skipping as far as burning calories!!
plus it is supposed to be amazing for the whole body, organs
and even skin?!
Sheesh,I say keep it and it would be fun to read about your
exercise on it
That’s funny, I was actually thinking about getting a trampoline for fun exercise! Not a large one like Kath’s but a smaller one for inside. I second think recommendation; I’d keep it!
this* not think
hehe
The lighting on your back perch looks excellent! Love that bowl. It’s so pretty.
So happy that you’re enjoying your new nest!!! It’s a cute one for sure. Looks like a KERF abode.
wow i LOVE everything about that backyard, the little island patio is adorable. Trampolines are great fun and exercise, keeeeep it!
That’s a great backyard! A porch and a deck for grilling! And it looks pretty big too! Haha, love the trampoline. I always wanted one when I was a kid but my mother didn’t want some large blue object in her beautiful backyard (she’s quite the gardener).
Cute backyard!! I would totally take that trampoline off your hands if we lived closer. They are so fun and sucha great workout (that doesn’t feel like a workout). Plus they are SO fun for the kiddies
Are u sure u want to sell it?!?
I’m not a fan of galley kitchens, they feel so claustrophobic! I’m loving all the sneak pics of your new house, can’t wait to see the whole thing all put together!
What a sweet backyard! So open and inviting. The BBQ deck is so perfect for entertaining. And a built in table? You guys bought a great house!
*sneak peeks*
I am loving all of the bright colors in your pictures this morning, Kath
I love the idea of buying a vintage teapot!
Very cute little porch!! Lucky that you inherited green grass too. I wish puts was still green, haha.
I just had to google “work triangle.” I just got my first U-shaped kitchen and was wondering what you meant! I LOVE my new space, glad you do too. Also, girl, you crazy – unpacking an entire house in what, a day???? I’ve been in my new apartment 2 weeks and STILL have one box to go (frames and art). You impress me to no end.
I moved over a year ago and there are still boxes in the garage that need to be unpacked!
Gmorning!
Can’t wait to see the rest of the porch! It looks so cute and cozy already~
Hey Kath (and others),
I’ve been reading for a while in hiding (love the blog btw) but I just have to comment on this post! Hope my little product advertisement is OK- if not, feel free to delete my comment, Kath!
The green bowl in the photos was actually designed by two friends of mine from college- they’re amazing, creative, and fun people who were upset that when they dipped a chip in a bowl of salsa, the chunky salsa would always fall off the side of the bowl. Such a problem
. SO they created that lovely bowl you see there- the Salsa bowl- as a solution. It has a lip on one side that curves slightly in so you get the perfect scoop of salsa on your chip anytime. And, as seen here, its beautiful and a great bowl to hold all your morning oats.
Sold here: http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/salsabol (comes in red, yellow, and green).
Sorry for the lengthy description but I just love these bowls (and the creative team behind them) so I got excited to see it being put to use here. Enjoy the day!
that’s awesome, jenn!
Is your home insurance higher from the trampoline? I ask because when we bought our house, there was skateboard half-pipe in the backyard and we requested the old owners remove it because 1. we don’t skateboard and 2. it would have made our home insurance go up. I just wondered if a trampoline would do the same.
And moving totally counts as a workout.
Don’t know – but we’re not keeping it!
Omg I LOVE LOVE LOVE that patio table!!
Can I say I love the table on your deck?! I have a similar one in my living room – good luck with settling into your new home – so exciting!
The yard looks so lovely! The raised deck will be just perfect for your outdoor gatherings. You must be so excited. Can’t wait to see how it shapes up as you guys do improvements!
What a CUTE backyard! I’d buy the trampoline from ya if I lived closer!
Your backyard is so nice!
You should keep the trampoline for backyard parties — that would make for some laughs and fun times
Or save it for when you have children

This post’s title made me smile
I’m loving the pics of the new place! It looks perfectly unpacked after only a few days! Of course, these were outdoor shots! But, you looked settled and enjoying the place! That is a great backyard, perfect for grilling and hanging out. I bet you will really enjoy it!
I wish we had a GH in Brooklyn. We have lots of awesome bakeries, just not all in one spot!!
Oh how I dream of the days when I have a backyard…jealous of your beautiful one! And what? Get rid of the trampoline? I’d totally keep it if it was in good shape…random fun for parties as well as exercise
Loving your new casa, it looks so homey!
Random, but I was looking at some of your older posts and was wondering if a lot of your house furniture are antiques? I went to an awesome antique fair last weekend and saw lots of neat furniture…I think it will be fun someday to decorate a house!
Yeah! Lots are from my mom and grandma
Love your backyard!! And that little built in deck is adorable. I bet you’ll get a lof use out of it, too.
I love the mosaic table! You Should definitely play on the trampoline before you sell it:)
I adore your backyard—and your little triangle of jam! So cute.
the backyard is awesome! I love the little patio
so fun!
You should totally keep the trampoline. It is a lot of fun and great exercise. Picture a BBQ with all your friends and the trampoline. Amazing.
I love the backyard! It’s so adorable. Also, a U-shaped kitchen sounds interesting!
I say sell the trampoline. They are huge liabilities for home owners because you can get sued if a neighbor’s kid sneaks into your yard to use the trampoline and gets injured. These are the type of things you have to worry about now as a home owner, unfortunately.
The backyard is beautiful!!!
Trampolines make for fun parties. My grand kids use theirs for sleep overs and even opening b-day gifts. So much fun!!! I vote to keep it too Kath.
Your backyard looks amazing and oh, the entertaining you’re going to be able to do there and the fun you can have back there!
And not exercising right after a move…I hear that. There’s far too much manual labor involved in the moving process to even worry about formal exercise
And too many boxes to unpack and projects to tend to!
Congratulations on a beautiful new home.
I am in love with that bowl!
pretty!!
Are those your lime green Asics!? I have the same ones – love.
Oh man, a trampoline would be SO MUCH FUN!
Although, I have to echo what others have said about the liability – in fact, when my little brother was in junior high, he was on our neighbor’s trampoline (with the neighbor’s kid), a fell/wash pushed off during a friendly wresting match. Broke both the radius and ulna in BOTH arms with nasty pressure breaks, had to have an upper-body cast, surgery, physical therapy, the works – and our/my parents health insurance wouldn’t cover it since it was a trampoline accident on someone else’s property. The neighbor’s homeowner’s insurance had to take it, and they ended up dropping the neighbor’s coverage due to the event. It was a big, ugly mess.
Oh no…I can’t believe the health insurance wouldn’t cover it!
We’re not going to keep it..
Kath, you make everything look so beautiful. Your new house is lovely.
Thanks!
Congrats! Great looking back(yard)!;)
I am really just enjoying the title of this post! Haha.
If you haven’t found a tea pot….check this out on the foundary. Lots of cute kettles and pots! It’s like groupon but for home goods.
http://shop.thefoundary.com/event_1687.html
oh nvm..they are all pots!
All the colors in your breakfast shots (table/bowl/mug/oatmeal) are fantastic!
Love all of the colors of your table…and I especially love the Salsabol!
