Art Full

July 18, 2012

Tonight I met up with several of my artsy girlfriends for a night of live arts!

Matt walked me downtown before he left on a run! It’s a really, really nice night out!

I met up with my friend Lindsey at Rev Soup for a quick dinner beforehand –

It’s too hot for soup, but not for a quesadilla!

This guy was filled with black beans, spinach and cheese and was quite tasty!

Especially with this nicely pureed salsa and sour cream combo on top – I cleaned my plate!

Nutrients on the side – the fabulous raspberry + goat cheese spinach salad. Perfect portion!

After dinner, we popped into Splendora’s for two bites of gelato – world’s smallest cone! [Coffee + heath bar flavor!]

The show du jour was HAIRSPRAY! I hadn’t seen it before (in a theater or either movie) but it was great. Lots of 60s jive and some good themes of gender, race and culture.

I vowed to see more of the arts when we moved to Cville and so far I think I’ve seen 3 theater performances – more if you could small dance shows. Not enough in 2 years, but counting!

Really fun evening! This was such a great thing to do with girlfriends, as I’m sure the men would have grumped a bit at the musical. We all enjoyed it!

That ice cream cone is adorable! And I LOVE black beans and spinach in my quesadillas – super yummy :)

Matt has been running a lot lately! You better get him a jogging stroller :)

3 KathEats July 18, 2012 at 9:49 pm

In the works!

4 Cait July 18, 2012 at 9:51 pm

Looks like a fun night! I love that you can get a two-bite cone like that, I need a place like that in Charlotte! Everywhere I turn a new froyo place is popping up but it’s impossible to keep those cups to two bites!

Also that quesadilla looks AMAZING!

5 Jeri July 18, 2012 at 9:56 pm

You make me want to move to Cville because you are always doing something fun! Wait, I’m a VT mom, did I just type that?

6 Sana July 18, 2012 at 10:01 pm

Sour cream and salsa are the BEST with a quesadilla!!!

7 Stephanie July 18, 2012 at 10:30 pm

I noticed that your dinner was served on (what looked like) paper plates…is that normal for Rev Soup? Just wondering :)

8 KathEats July 19, 2012 at 6:12 am

I think it is

9 Lisa @ bakebikeblog July 18, 2012 at 11:05 pm

Black beans and spinach in a quesadilla sounds really GOOD! And oozing cheese, naturally. :)

12 Averie @ Averie Cooks July 18, 2012 at 11:57 pm

Fun meetup and night and the quesadilla looks perfect!

Sounds like such a fun evening, and the quesadilla looks so good!

14 Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy July 19, 2012 at 4:40 am

It’s never to hot for quesadillas :) They look great too.

15 Ashley @ Coffee, Cake, and Cardio July 19, 2012 at 4:44 am

I love your friends shirt/dress! Too cute.

What a fun night.

16 Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count July 19, 2012 at 5:17 am

The show looks like fun!! The quesadilla looks even better! 😉

17 Erica { } July 19, 2012 at 5:19 am

That quesadilla looks amazing!

18 Kathryn @ Mamacado July 19, 2012 at 5:40 am

That dinner looks right up my alley…perfect. And so awesome you can just get a few bites of gelato…I wish every ice cream place would offer that!

19 Chelsea @ Chelsea's Lovelys July 19, 2012 at 5:48 am

Looks like you had a fun night! The quesadilla look wonderful!

20 Brie @ Coxswain's Dilemma July 19, 2012 at 5:54 am

I love musicals – it’s really cool that you live in such a artful, vibrant town.

21 Margaret M. July 19, 2012 at 6:16 am

That sounds fun! I love the gelato cone, so small and so cute.

22 Khushboo Thadani July 19, 2012 at 6:26 am

OMG that ice cream cone is perfect!

23 Kaila @healthyhelperblog! July 19, 2012 at 6:46 am

I am surprised you were able to take pictures during the show! Usually theatre’s don’t allow that because it can be distracting to the actors (stage actor speaking here LOL). I LOVE Hairspray though! One of my fave ‘fun’ musicals!

24 KathEats July 19, 2012 at 7:39 am

This was at the very end during the curtain call – wouldn’t have interrupted the show!

25 Katie @ Peace Love & Oats July 19, 2012 at 7:03 am

I’ve seen the movie Hairspray but never a live show! Sounds like fun!

26 Hope @ With A Side Of Hope July 19, 2012 at 7:15 am

Looks like such a fun night! Hairspray is a great musical. I love the music from it :) That is the smallest gelato cone I’ve ever seen!

27 Joelle (on a pink typewriter) July 19, 2012 at 7:40 am

You’ve got me craving a quesadilla now!

28 Fran July 19, 2012 at 7:57 am

love hairspray! I sing along to it at work all the time (ok, quietly in my head).

I notice you are wearing flip flops and that you have mentioned its because you have foot problems, which may be why you don’t switch it up with cuter shoes. have you seen this article? just some food (haha) for thought!

29 KathEats July 19, 2012 at 8:00 am

It’s just way too hot out to wear anything but flip flops – the thought of wearing my Toms or flats makes me sweat! I also have pretty wide feet, so most flats give me blisters. Considering the amount of walking I do, blisters can’t be an option : ( I know flip flops aren’t great for walking, but no blisters > support + sweat at the moment.

30 Celeste July 19, 2012 at 11:06 am

In the South (I’m from TX) you can’t get a way from flip-flops in the summer! I only wear TOMS or flats if my toenails need painting.

31 Tracy July 19, 2012 at 12:43 pm

Have you heard of Orthaheel? They make great (cute) arch supportive flip flops. Reasonably priced, too.

Hi Kath! I was in Cville about a week and a half ago. We only had time for one meal in Cville and we ate at Rev Soup. It was DELICIOUS! Of course, we were there on a 100+ degree day and my DH wants…soup. However, he was coming down with a cold, so I can see how he’d want soup on a hot day. He got the tortilla soup (it looked YUM!) and I got the ’90s Club. Oh my….so good! If I lived in Cville, this would be one of my haunts! It’s such a cute place!

33 KathEats July 19, 2012 at 8:06 am

Fun! It’s one of my favorite spots – just wish the ambiance was a bit better!

34 Ashley @ Hudson on the Potomac July 19, 2012 at 8:23 am

I saw HairSpray in Vegas and LOVED it! I’ve seen the movie too, plays are always better in my opinion!

35 Katie @ Talk Less, Say More July 19, 2012 at 10:55 am

That ice cream cone is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! :)

36 lee July 19, 2012 at 11:22 am

I think “Hairspray” is so wonderful! I’ve only seen the 2 movie versions – never a live show…yet – but I really appreciate the way it brings out issues about race, gender, etc. in an approachable way. For people already familiar with those issues, perhaps it’s a little light-hearted…but for others, I think this makes a great segue into deeper conversations. Glad you liked the show! =)

37 Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles July 19, 2012 at 12:52 pm

I love Hairspray…saw it in New York with my girlfriends! That gelato is a bit of a tease!

38 Kristin at MommyPage July 19, 2012 at 4:20 pm

Your baby bump looks beautiful!! You have the “motherly glow”. And all the food you had looks yummy. I hope you had a great day.

39 Ella July 19, 2012 at 6:25 pm

I have always loved “Hairspray”! The original movie, the musical, and now the new movie are just all awesome!!! Glad you enjoyed yourself!! Did you go to a Children’s production? There is such a formal dress-code for musical theater here, although it fun to wear my cocktail dresses and see men dolled up in suits.

40 KathEats July 19, 2012 at 6:36 pm

No, but it was community theater – a very small theater too – and everyone was casual. I would have totally dressed up for a production at a fancier theater on a Saturday night.

41 Angel7 July 19, 2012 at 9:59 pm

After seeing the quesadilla, it made me hungry for Mexican. And when my husband came home from work tonight, he said that he would like to go to our fave Mexicano restaurant tomorrow evening, which did not take me any convincing :)

42 Dominique July 20, 2012 at 12:07 am

I made my boyfriend (now fiance) watch Hairspray with me in the theatre. Back then we had a rule about the movies…he’d choose the movie and then I’d choose the next one so we weren’t always watching movies one person wanted to see. Hairspray was my choice that week and I thought it was hiliarous–although I got sick towards the end of it (too much popcorn).

43 Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See July 20, 2012 at 12:56 pm

I know it’s summer, but soup sounds SO good right now!
