Matt and I like to do something outdoorsy together on Sundays. A scenic run, a hike or a long bike ride. Last weekend we hiked. Today we biked!
We biked ALL over town – covering 16 miles in an hour 45 minutes.
We aren’t planning to buy a house for a while – at least a year – maybe longer. But we used today to scope out neighborhoods. We’ve pretty much decided exactly where we want to live and the style of house we want. Now it’s just a matter of saving and saving until we can afford to buy there.
I didn’t feel all that tired …until I got off my bike!! I walked inside like a cowboy who’d rode 100 miles on a horse!
We were both ready for lunch – a pimento cheese-based lunch!
Lots of leftover veggies with a honkin’ pile of Kelsey’s pimento cheese
A few almonds
An AMAZING stack of Carr’s whole wheat cookie crackers with chocolate goat cheese
Look closely! They were amazing! [I can’t get enough of these Wendy!]
Chip crumbles
Oh, and pineapple.
Tasting plates are the best!
I got a little to do this afternoon, and then we’re going to dinner – we have an invitation!

Chocolate goat cheese? Sounds terrific.
I know – that was totally my reaction too. Kath, did you buy the chocolate goat cheese at a farmer’s market or make it yourself with plain goat cheese?
Those crackers look like cookies, yum!
Wow 16 miles is awesome! It’s fun to dream about owning a house and where to live and what you’ll do with it. I have another 1-2 years until I can realistically buy, too. Wish it was sooner!
Awesome bike ride!
It is so nice here in MN today (almost 40 degrees!) and I am heading out to take a nice long walk. I can’t wait!
That goat cheese looks fab!
What an awesome bike ride!
I thought you’d just bought a house..is it a rental?
Yup, we’re just renting
Chocolate goat cheese?? Amazing!
dude, those are my favorite cookies ever. they taste almost like dessert and they crumble in your mouth with sweet goodness!
Tasting plate looks amazing. I need to do that more often!
Owning a home is great…minus all the little repairs you have to do yourself all the time.
No landlord anymore! But it’s worth it.
I love bike-riding! I could go forever, but then I die when I get off haha.
Yummy tasting lunch!
Gorgeous looking plate!! The chocolate goat cheese has my attention
What an epic bikeride
…and an EPIC tasting plate for lunch! I love fresh pineapple!
those cookie cracker look great!
What a great ride! I havent ridden a bike in ages.
I think it’s AWESOME that you are sitting tight, really evaluating a home purchase, and just really really making sure. I have JUMPED into many real estate transactions only to find myself with a house I dont truly love or a payment that’s ridic expensive and then have had to un-do it all. You are smart for taking your time and in this market, it’s SUCH a buyer’s market, you can name the tune
Before my nerve disease started, I used to love going on long bike rides with my boyfriend on the weekends. He just got home from Afghanistan, but I enjoy going swimming with him now when he comes to visit. That’s all I can do now, and I am lucky he used to swim competitively because he loves it.
Cookie crackers?! I die. That plate looks scrumdiddlyumptious!
That tasting plate looks great. I need to remember to make that more often especially as I love having bites of different things to eat.
Tasting plate is my lunch today, too. I just saw your wild oats in O magazine!! So very exciting!
I love to ride around looking at houses (and crashing the occasional open house) and I own a place. So much fun to see what others have done with their spaces!
Wait…wait. Chocolate AND goat cheese? Those might be two of my favorite things and now I see I can get combined? Wow.
chocolate goat cheese!!! yum! . . . is that a recipe??
Chocolate goat cheese!? Holy cow! (cheese humor
)
The choco goat cheese is from a gourmet shop here in Cville called Feast!
Of course! That’s where I got you the pumpkin one!
wow – I love all the colours!
Mmmm, chocolate goat cheese sounds beyond amazing.
I love LOVE taster plates as well
So…I totally got the O magazine today – call me as lame as you want – I think I’ll look as it as inspiration. In my dreams.
That’s a lot of biking! -do you road bike? Also, a “hot topic” among my female friends is that their BF’s/husbands eat differently than they do and more – making it difficult to live together! Do you and Matt eat the same pretty much?
I got on the bike for the first time in months last weekend and I swear just NOW is my butt feeling back to normal. WOW I forgot how rough it can be on the behind. Sounds like a wonderful Sunday so far.
Try a Gel bicycle seat.
My hubby and I bike around the developments near us also scoping out our next house. So much fun! Glad you had a great day!
I wish I had a bike – as soon as we get a place I could store one!
Great workout – and I love tasting plates as well. Each bite is different!
We’re moving to Portland in 2.5 weeks, and I’m really looking forward to getting a bike. It’s considered one of the most bikeable of all cities. Woot!
I’m a little freaked out about riding on the road. Does it scare you?
It did in Charlotte where the drivers were crazy, but here I’m very comfortable with it. Plus there are tons of bike lanes!
I am also in awe of the chocolate goat cheese. Please elaborate on this!
Chocolate goat cheese?! Where can I get this???
That’s so strange how biking can do that! They either wear you out while riding, or keep you feeling fine until you get off!
Perfect day for a bike ride!
Mmm…chocolate goat cheese?! I would’ve never thought of that, yum!
My husband and I love getting outdoors, but not today–it is 13*. Spring, please come soon!!
I miss tasting plates. Yours is gorgeous! And I know I’m late to the game, but congrats on Oprah. Can I be your “Gayle?”
Tasting plates are absolutely the best – yours include more veggies and less chocolate than mine usually do, though
Don’t you love when someone else cooks for you? Twice the food pleasure.
Chocolate goat cheese? Now that is something I’ve got to try!
OMG, I love Carr’s whole wheat crackers! They taste like delicious gram crackers! I love them with blue cheese.
chocolate goat cheese? what will they think of next! I guess it goes to show that chocolate can be paired with anything and make it tastes amazing
Glad you were able to enjoy some outdoorsy time! We are looking at houses too, it’s so exciting, isn’t it?!
Your food is always so colorful! I love it!
glad you liked the chocolate goat cheese! thanks for having me over!
I used to buy those Carr whole wheat crackers all the time! They had a sweet taste to them that was so good. I kinda forgot about them; thanks for the reminder!
I call this a “garbage plate.” I give it a 2 thumbs up!
Chocolate goat cheese?! I have never heard of such a thing!
Those are my absolute favorite kind of cracker! I love that they’re sweet – delicious with cheese, especially some ricotta with a drizzle of honey. Yum.
I love that about biking – the tiredness doesn’t really hit until you’re done!
Chocolate goat cheese! Oh, I think my heart just skipped a beat! I agree, I love plates with a little bit of everything!
I’m gonna guess and say you edited these photos in RAW?! They look SO much better!! Way to go.
NOPE! 100% cooked.
PS. I don’t believe in raw
Really?! I thought you liked it? Or are you just editing cooked in lightroom now?
Yup! I’ve never shot in RAW. I did once and couldn’t notice a difference, so I went back to JPG in a heartbeat
LOL – so I thought you were talking about the food itself as in eating raw versus cooked
I love having party leftovers. It makes for fun lunch’s or dinner’s the next day.
hahahaha. i believe, when i sat down at the dinner table, my dad made the comment that my plate looked fit for a cowboy. i was so confused! it was because it was probably bigger than my face. :-p
Those Carr’s crackers are so cookie-ish!!
Tastings plates are the best!
I met someone at the hotel yesterday who was from Charlottesville, VA and told her about how I follow your blog and love the town that you’re from! I would love to visit when all of the galleries are open.
Or should say, when the galleries are open and serving free food and wine.
Love the plethora of healthy yet sumptuous foods
I know it’s already been admired, but chocolate goat cheese?! Sigh*
Yum!! Looking forward to having nice enough weather here in Nebraska to enjoy a bike ride!
I love, love, love how you guys plan an outdoorsy activity on Sundays. I’ve been trying to get my husband to commit to doing the same thing, but no luck so far! He has weekend commitment issues. Haha! I think I’m going to have to just load my toddler up and go on my own!!!
I can SO relate to the “and then I got off my bike” comment! I went for a 44-mile ride on Saturday and had to stop mid-way through for a water refill. Getting off my bike was the biggest mistake! My bike fell over and the brake caliper got nudged into the wheel rim. I rode the last ~20 miles basically like I had the brakes on! MY LEGS WERE ON FIRE! I just blogged about it… Ha!
It does make the food taste that much better, though!
Molly
where can I find the recipe of teh whole weat cookies?????
They are Carr’s brand
