We had a great time at Foxfield – other than the fact that it was windy and freezing!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhh, I can never win.
But the tailgate spread was delicious, the company fun and the ambiance festive.
We were invited up to the grand stand with Sharon and Beverly, friends of friends of Karen
It was quite the scene!
And quite the view!
Matt and I bet a beer at Beer Run on a race. My horse lost
Lowlight of my day
Highlight of my day!
We had lots of snacks and a make-your-own sandwich bar
I had half a sandwich smeared with hummus, avocado, tomato, sprouts and lettuce
Plus veggies, chips, hummus, a few crackers (and more straight from he bowls!)
And a seltzer and cranberry
Throughout the afternoon I ate my weight in veggies – the best thing to munch on! Karen’s friend Tracy brought them and they were so fresh!
I had two small glasses of wine
And a brownie piece to end it

That looks like you had a great time! That is such a “southern” get together for me to look at! I LOVE IT!!!
What an amazing spread you had! So nice to see the tailgating food can be healthy
Beautiful horses!
Looks like such a fun day!! I love events like that!
Looks like a great event! The food spread looks perfect too! I love build your own meals…it helps a lot when you have food restrictions too! Glad you had fun…enjoy your evening!
Glad you had more fun than last time. The make your own sandwich bar sounds cool!
What a fun day! Too bad it was cold though, that tends to ruin an event for me
I spend the whole time shivering.
How Fun! Yep it twas cold in central IL today also! Your sandwich looks amazing
It looks like a fun day and the food looks amazing – yum!
You totally had my perfect day! Horses, good food, good company. Bliss!
Looove sprouts on sandwiches. Yumm! Looks like a lovely way to spend the day.
You and Matt are such a lovely couple
Gives me hope that one day I’ll be happily married, too
Seriously, though. It’s SO cold here in Maryland today, too, and overcast – boo! The sun needed to stay for the WHOLE weekend, not just yesterday, ugh! Anyways, glad you had such a fun day! Enjoy your evening Kath!
Y’all are so cute!
Looks like a great time and awesome eats! That build your own sandwich spread is a great idea. Love the wine glasses, too.
The horses ate beautiful.
I personally don’t care for racing since I’ve known so many retired racers that are just beaten physically and mentally..but it’s a sport and I respect anybody who participates none the less.
Portapotties would definitely be the low point of my day, too- those things are never pleasant!
you guys are adorable…that last picture made me smile
Super cute…looks like you guys had fun. The porta-potty would have been the lowlight of my day as well. Yuck.
Kath, I love this blog.
…but I am am completely baffled by Southern culture.
Ha, sorry, hope that’s not offensive…I mean it in good fun. Cheers!
What don’t you get!?!
I’m a southerner and horse racing is totally normal! I’m from KY and it’s what we do best- horse race, tailgate, and spend time with family and friends!! Love it Kath
Just the horse racing — but I am certain there are things that baffle Southerns re: my culture! Hope it was fun! : )
I’m from California and have never been to the south but I love horse racing! We have Golden Gate Fields just 30 minutes away and at one of our annual fairs they have horse racing every day during the two week event. Great post:)
Funny! I’m from the South and this type of stuff is definitely what we associated with “East Coast” culture (esp the Mid Atlantic region)
Awwwwww
So the highlight of your day for me would have DEFINITELY been the spread of food and wine; everything looks delish, especially those sandwiches!! Happy Sunday to you!
that sandwich looks amazing… I want one JUST like it, RIGHT now!
your brownies look YUM also!
haha I love the picture near the end of Matt…he looks so contemplative!
This looks like so much fun! I’ve never been to a horse race before.
The last photo of you two are adorable!
This looks wonderful, despite the cold temps! I love horse races. Glad you all enjoyed yourselves!!
Looks like fun! Great post and beautiful photos. My favorite picture was the last one. You guys make a lovely couple. How long have you been married?
3 years!
Those brownies look amaaaazing!
My boyfriend wants to know if it is possible for them to taste as good as they look?
Yes!
I’m glad you had fun! Horse races are coooolio
Aww, you guys are so cute:) Those veggies look so colorful and fresh. Now I’m craving veggies!
The guac looks delicious!!!
Despite the weather (and the porta potty!) it sounds like fun!
It does look chilly!!! But also fun.
Raw veggies and sandwiches are just so satisfying. As is wine, of course.
You guys are just too cute.
So fun! I love that you snagged the brownie end- definitely the best part. All the pics of you two are great as well. I wish my BF were as cooperative with pictures!!
I’ve been following you for a while and just wanted to stop by and say hi! It looked like a lot of fun today. I love that you were able to eat clean and healthy and be at the horse races! That’s fantastic!!
Looks like a fun day! My guy friend and I always want to head out to Golden Gate Fields for a race, but we’re never available on the same day.
You two are too cute, btw.
Looks like a great day! I’m curious whether you count calories at all or if you just eat intuitively.
I eat intuitively these days
Oh man life is WAY too short to have a piece of brownie that small.
Beautiful! Ya’ll are too cute :>
Looks like such a great day! I’m craving some chilly weather!
love all the pix but esp. the one of the jack russell, which is the kind of dog i have (except he’s black and white). they love horses!
bbrrr it even LOOKS cold! boo for port o potties!
I absolutely LOVE the horse races! My favorite track is DelMar in San Diego!
Your eats look delicious!
Heidi xo
I have a green short sleeve cardigan and I love your long sleeve green cardigan! Looks like an awesome day!
What a fun day at the race track. We had an outing at Del Mar race track in San Diego and I wish they allowed bringing our own food in so that I could bring healthier choices. It was fun during the actual races but in between the races, we also had fun drinking (it was too hot to have wine so it was a beerfest) and doing healthy pickings at the sandwich bar.
looks like a great day to me!
Squee! Horsies!!!! (I’m totally embracing my inner ten year old right now.)
What a classy way to spend the day in lawn chairs! Looks awesome. But I’m a sucker for a glass of wine and a veggie plate.
Horses are my favorite. So jealous of your afternoon!
I agree – it definitely rings “southern”
Sounds like such a fun, fun day!
those brownies look sooo yummy!! do you make them from scratch? If so, do post a recipe please!!
Aww you and Matt are so cute! Looks like such a fun day, and all the food looks very tasty!
Not to be a downer, but the only beings who don’t really have a good time at a horse race, are the horses. A little research into horse racing tells a terrible story. Ask anybody who rescues horses off the track. On the other hand, those brownies look awesome!!!
I agree with you…
Wow that is the healthiest tailgate I have ever seen! Gamedays at my school send people into another reality where calories don’t count and the only color on the table is from cupcake sprinkles
Horse races in the South are a world apart from anything I know in British Columbia, Canada.
Thank-you for sharing!
PS: You and Matt are looking extra cute in this post!
LOL@ the comment from the baffled non-Southerner
I LOVE your drop earrings!
Kath, your outfits are always so cute! Don’t you have any cute shoes to go with all those cute clothes? You always wear flip flops, it seems.
flip flops are awesome… she looks casual chic
Nice legs Kath!
Hi Kath! I enjoy your blog daily and love getting recipe and home decor ideas from you. But I must say, I hate horse racing. Just look at the bits! If you want to see a fun human/horse activity that the horses actually like, check out this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEC_WE1AQLg
And NO bits, kicking or pressure on the horse. It’s fun for all!
Looks like a fun day, but it seems like the bad weather was contagious judging from some of the comments.
Wear those flip-flops with pride!
Beautiful horses! I love the sandwich bar-idea
So jealous. My sorority used to visit Foxfield all the time. Agh…the memories!
I hardly ever comment, mainly due to time constraints, but I second the “casual chic”. Your style looks effortless, but great!
