5 Girls, 3 Umbrellas

July 14, 2012

Good morning & afternoon!

We’re lucky to have a breakfast included with our hotel, so that saves the headache of waking up hungry!

I brought a loaf of Whole Grain Goodness for us to eat on while we’re here, and it made a delicious breakfast.

With mashed banana, almond butter (packet from home) and jam

Plus a carton of milk and a coffee (mostly regular due to less than a full night’s sleep)

During breakfast, KERF reader Jeri stopped by to say hello. I invited her by because I brought her a loaf of Cville Crunch at her request! She was nice a sweet person and has lost 6 pounds from making changes by reading blogs! The VA Tech vets were happy to see Jeri’s outfit : )

After breakfast, we headed out to the beach. Meredith and I went for about an hour walk up and down, dodging grey rain clouds

We juuuust got back

When my sunbrella turned into a rainbrella : (

Raindrops in the sand

Just after we packed up, they actually closed the whole beach for thunder.

Good thing it was lunch time!

We headed nearby to Planet Pizza for a couple of pies and salads. Loved the alien theme!

Side salad to start

And we shared a veggie + Hawaiian pizza duo

2+1 – delicious pizza!!

I grew up going to Seaside Heights on the Jersey Shore and have fond memories of Kohr Bros frozen custard (and vinegar fries and giant slices of pizza!) Since we’re at a boardwalk, we sought out Kohr after lunch!

The peanut butter was SO good but I felt that I needed to get the classic orange + vanilla but once I tasted the blueberry lemon swirl I had to get that one!

This was AMAZING!!! We actually have a Kohr Bros in Cville, although it’s up the highway so not convenient for us to go to, but I will have to make a special trip. The custard was fluffy and sooooo smooth!

Afterwards we walked in drizzling rain and did a little shopping…

Christmas shopping!!

Makes me excited for our upcoming seasons : )

We’re hoping the rain clears (per the doppler’s suggestion) so we can get a little more beach time in before dinner. We’re going out for drinks and dinner and then I’m actually heading back to Cville tonight – a late arrival – so I’ll see you in the morning again (or perhaps a surprise Insta-visit : ) )

Don’t you mean your sunbrella turned into an umbrella?

2 KathEats July 14, 2012 at 2:14 pm

Nope :)

3 Nicole July 15, 2012 at 12:17 pm

My son used to call umbrellas “rainbrellas” when he was 2 :)

4 Jillian July 14, 2012 at 6:13 pm

Ha! It does rhyme :)

5 Sana July 14, 2012 at 2:13 pm

The frozen custard looks amazinggg

6 Jeri July 14, 2012 at 2:14 pm

Kath thank you so much. I made an open-faced BLT! YUM!! Already making plans for day trips before football season begins to pick up more goodies from GH. By the way, if any readers use MyFitnessPal.com like I do, you will be happy to know that Cville Crunch is already listed.

S/N: After I left and parked at 10th street. I walked all the way down to 40th and back. Made it to 12th street, 4.45 miles, and threw up all the water I drank. I forgot to eat because I was so excited to meet you. LOL! It was worth it. Cville Crunch is the bestest ever!

7 KathEats July 14, 2012 at 2:37 pm

OMG, I wish I had some frozen custard/ froyo or something around! The ‘fluffy and smooth’ description makes me envious!

17 Melissa July 14, 2012 at 4:00 pm

Stop … you’re telling me Kohr’s has blueberry and lemon now??! (I grew up going to Ocean City, NJ and practically lived on Kohr’s.) Blueberry and lemon is my flavor of this summer, thanks to all the blueberries in our yard. Now I want some of that custard … been way too long since my last Kohr’s fix.

Hope you’re enjoying your girls getaway!

18 KathEats July 14, 2012 at 4:04 pm

They did here!! It was great!

19 Emmalinda July 14, 2012 at 9:54 pm

I grew up going to Ocean City, too. Actually, my family still goes every other year…and this is the year! I so hope they have blueberry & lemon at OC. And, I always order mine covered in jimmies! (normally chocolate, sometimes rainbow)

20 Sandie July 15, 2012 at 7:33 am

i was in ocnj in june and they didn’t have the blueberry lemon- so wish they did!

21 kelly July 14, 2012 at 4:01 pm

Did you know there’s a Kohr Brothers up on Pantops? Just past the I64 exit. I find that is MUCH less stressful than driving up 29.

22 KathEats July 14, 2012 at 4:04 pm

NO!! Sweet!

23 Cait's Plate July 14, 2012 at 4:11 pm

Bummer about the rain :( At least you got a little sunshine! That frozen custard looks so delicious!

24 Averie @ Averie Cooks July 14, 2012 at 4:14 pm

sorry bout the rain :(

I am loving that BRIDE cup! love the bling!

25 Jennifer July 14, 2012 at 4:42 pm

Kohr Bros. ROCKS!!! There truly is nothing like it!

Sounds like you had a great time minus the rain. Drive safely.

This Christmas should be super fun for you guys this year. :)

26 Molly @ RDexposed July 14, 2012 at 5:17 pm

I hate getting those kind of salads at restaurants. Where are the green greeeens??

27 Margaret July 14, 2012 at 8:40 pm

Looks like some awesome eats! Btw, GO HOKIES! :)

28 Sarah @ Learning to Feed Yourself July 14, 2012 at 8:45 pm

Looks like you’re having fun! And that pizza and ice cream looks amazing :)

29 Jordan July 14, 2012 at 9:02 pm

I was just at Planet Pizza a few weeks ago on vacation! Their buffalo chicken pizza is quite good, if you have the opportunity to go again (a little spicy, though, just to warn you). There is a DQ on the boardwalk as well, which is one of our favorite beach treats.

30 Angela @ Health, Happiness and Harmony July 14, 2012 at 9:31 pm

We live an hour away from Seaside, and I have the same memories! Marucas pizza for dinner and Kohr’s for dessert is the best! :)

31 Emma July 14, 2012 at 10:52 pm

HOKIES!!! :)

the hawaiian pizza (my favorite) and blueberry lemon swirl look great! The last time I was at VA beach I got Kohr’s Bros too, but they didn’t have those two flavors – I definitely would have gotten it though because lemon and blueberry is the perfect combo.

32 j3nn July 14, 2012 at 11:18 pm

I love when soft serve comes in other flavors besides vanilla/chocolate. We used to have flavor of the day at our stand. Ah, ice cream is summery sweet memories. :)

33 Kathleen July 15, 2012 at 8:31 am

Is it just me, I can’t see any of the pictures from the last several posts? I haven’t had this issue before…..I was at the Jersey Shore last night but I am pregnant and still nauseous-dessert seems to make it worse so I skipped the Kohrs ice cream :(. I did some Joey Tomatoes pizza though, yum:).

34 Kathleen July 15, 2012 at 8:37 am

Okay weird, now I can see them!

35 Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy July 16, 2012 at 4:01 am

I love being on the beach when it rains – it looks so pretty!

Those pizza’s look lush!

36 Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See July 18, 2012 at 12:59 pm
