We went to bed last night saying we’d just wake up when we wake up and see what we felt like doing at the time – either running or going to breakfast and hitting the road. I woke up at 6:30 and played on my computer until about 7:30 when I woke Matt up with the video Caitlin posted of the "i love you" Huskie
I really didn’t feel like running, but mostly because I was starving and wanted to eat breakfast and not because I didn’t have the energy! Matt’s simple response was "Just have a snack." Duh Kath!
So I snacked on a Glo-bar and was primed for running.
We ended up having an awesome run!!! It was 33* and no, the run didn’t leave me loopy, but it was a great loop itself through a nice neighborhood at the top of West Yellowstone. We ran about 4.25 miles, including a planned stop into a coffee shop!
Some iPhone fun –
Tracks to nowhere
Deserted frontier town
We had a free breakfast at our hotel, but I was on the hunt for some good coffee with foam. This is the new coffee snob that is emerging from me! The first coffee shop we read about in our guidebook was closed
but the second one was perfect!! Organic coffees and lots of foam. Score!
I got a medium coffee with steamed milk and some sugar-free English Nut Toffee. I actually prefer my coffee unsweet, but when there’s toffee flavor involved, I’ll order it.
We had ran to the shop so we walked back through town and enjoyed our coffees with breakfast
The hotel breakfast was just average so I brought out a packet of a fun cereal a blog reader sent me ages ago. I’ve been waiting for a day when traveling that I needed a lot of fuel – Rokit Fuel – to use this guy up.
It was rather calorie dense so Matt and I shared it – plus the addition of a bit more instant oats to bulk our halves up.
WIth about half a cup of hot water, it thickened perfectly. I couldn’t really taste much pumpkin or chocolate, but it was definitely better than your typical instant oatmeal packet. And apparently can be consumed by just adding cold water too.
Of course toppings were involved – half a banana, the top of a crumbled banana nut muffin, a tsp of cream cheese (got the idea from Jenn!) and some Barney Butter from a packet.
Just a smidge because Matt got most of it is his bowl.
We dined at the pretty wooden table in our motel room –
And had a lovely parking lot vista
I love vacations when you don’t have an agenda and can explore at leisure. We’re showering and packing up now and then setting out on the 3 hour trip to Dillon, hoping to stop at some of the mining towns along the way.
Lunch is unknown! Hope we can find somewhere with frontier charm.

… and I thought it was cold here at 43*! I don’t even drink coffee but the one you got looks so good! Have a great day!
What iPhone app do you use for running?
Beth,
I just used MapMyRun when I got home online. I usually use Google Maps to plan a route though.
Kath
I love vacation runs and breakfasts! I’m impressed that you braved the cold too.
I love it when there aren’t schedules you have to follow.
I’m glad you had a good run and that you’re both having a good time!
You guys are so cute! Its great that you both enjoy exercise so much and can travel together so well!
I’m freezing my tushie off here in NC, I can’t even imagine how cold it is there!!!
Not having a schedule is the best!!!
Enjoy the rest of your trip!
Man that’s cold! Kudos on getting out!
That coffee + pumpkin oats with butter toffee peanut butter would be my dream
you are such a dedicated runner! p.s. I love coffee with foam. enjoy the rest of your day and adventures!
I know you love running on vacation, but I have a question. How do you not get lost?? I’d love to run on location, but I’d probably go up and down the same street out of fear of getting lost
Love the deserted frontier town. I need to go out west and explore!! I am so jealous!
That pic of Matt should be a Barney Butter ad!
And I LOVE toffee coffee!
mmm…I love toffee flavored syrups in coffee, too!!
Hope you all are enjoying your day!
I don’t drink a ton of coffee but when I do I need foam and a touch of syrup…usually cinnamon dolce from Starbucks.
I love your loops and fun fuel. Sounds great.
33 degree running is crazy!
Yummy oats!
yummy breaky and coffee
jenna
What a fun run Kath! That coffee shop sounds adorable and, of course, the coffee looks fabulous for a chilly morning. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Glad you were able to get a run in! And find good coffee too!
That oatmeal looks great! Pumpkin chocolate? Yum.
I can never pass up anything toffee, either!
Have fun on the frontier
I LOVE that video. So cute. I really like all your vacation posts bc it’s cool to see how Matt eats too
And it’s so awesome that you exercise together.
love how you’re able to make a great breakfast even while staying at a hotel! looks yummy!
One of my favourite things about vacay is exploring the town running then going on a hunt for breakfast and coffee… sounds delightful! (oh, and good on you for embracing your inner coffee snob!
)
ICY run. Impressive homegirl!
Is it weird that I am jealous of your freezing run? It is supposed to hit 100 today in Arizona!
Ooh what a cold run! Sounds like you guys had fun though. You two are way too cute:)
Yum, cream cheesy oats!
Jenn
Awesome run, especially in that weather! I admire you foro that
I need to dig up my skullcap and warm pants for runs, and find some reflective tape, too!
Julie,
I have a pretty good sense of direction, but I usually study Google Maps before i head out and get an idea for the town. I’ve gotten lost before, but never too bad – I usually know about where I am.
Kath
haha I have zero sense of direction, hence my fear of getting lost!
You… a coffee snob? I love it! So funny!!!
so great that you and your hubby run together. my husband runs with our dog, it’s so cute!
ooh, will you be allowed to sell artisan beer at your great harvest? i can imagine matt would enjoy that immensely!
