Smells I will miss in the next 12 days:
The most amazing hand crème I’ve ever found. Smells JUST like a lemon girl scout cookie. 99% as good as eating the real thing.
This Redken hair stuff Sarah gave me and I use for the smell only (I can’t tell if it makes my hair any different!)
Because there’s nothin’ like smelling Juicy
I will also miss this while I am up in moose country:
Smoothie in a bowl. Using up the fridge!
The Mix
For TWO smoothies
1 banana
- 2 big handfuls of spinach
- 1 cup Organic Valley drinkable yogurt
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tbsp Vega Choc-a-lot
- 1/3 cup raw oats
Toppings: Crunchy buckwheat granola, coconut, peanut sauce
[Want to hear something funny: My dad reads the blog everyday and said to me over Christmas “I read every word, except for ‘the mix’ which I don’t really get” Ha!]
That big clump?
Peanut sauce. I haven’t wanted to open a fresh jar of nut butter before our trip, so I braved the peanut flour again. This time I mixed 2 tbsp flour with 1/2 tsp salt (LOTS of salt!), 1 tsp maple syrup and 2 tbsp milk. Worked great and I liked it a lot for SIAB! It also made a ton!
Coffee was weak today
I’m not wild about our latest variety
Made up for it with a strong mug!
I’m wondering which includes more items: “The 12 Days Of Christmas” song or my 12-days-in-Montana suitcase!?
I’m trying to pack lightly, really, I am!

that hand cream does smell AMAZING! I love it! have fun packing
It might be almost impossible to pack lightly for 1) Montana and 2) 12-days!
Would love to visit moose country! Dustin is a moose fanatic.
That hand cream sounds amazing! I need to find it asap! I hate packing. I never know what to bring and I always end up overpacking and not even wearing half the stuff I bring. Good luck with packing!
LOVE J.R. Watkins!
Carry-on luggage only? Brave girl!
I always *try* to pack light… particularly after my (checked) suitcase was lost on a trip to Ireland. (Um, it went to London without me? I used to live there, so I think it was just trying to go “home”! I got it back on day 3 of an 11 day trip, thankfully).
The 3 oz rule kills me… I end up filling up my quart bag, and my man’s as well.
I love all citrus-scented things, yum! The C.O.Bigelow lemon lotion smells divine, too!
~
Well we are taking 2 suitcases and mine may or may not be checked. Packing less than 3 oz just in case!
Oooh, good luck packing!!! I would have a HARD time packing lightly for that trip!
I don’t know how you eat smoothies when it is this cold. I just had a hot bowl of oats with some iced water and am not freezing. I think today calls for lots of hot tea, but first…another cup of coffee. Have fun packing…I always dread it.
The smoothie wasn’t cold!! Nothing is frozen in there – just room temp and the milks. It gets room temp by the time I eat it and blend it.
Spray your the inside of your [filled] suitcase with a spritz of perfume to “carry” it with you
I’m chuckling at your dad’s comment
Good idea!
I LOVE that hand creme! I have to find it online now cause the store that used to sell it here closed down
Ahhh!
You are going to have so much fun! I can’t wait to hear about your trip!
Good luck with the packing and the trip!
must try that hand cream! Good luck in Montana…:)
love,
cathy b. @ brightbakes
montana is really beautiful!
you will have the best time….enjoy!
That is impressive!! I could never pack all my things for 2 weeks into a carry on, I even have a hard time packing my things for a weekend into a carry on (but then again, I tend to pack my whole house whenever I go anywhere). Safe travels!
I would imagine that half the suitcase would be one or two winter coats.
Besides the great smell, does the creme work well for dry skin? I get the worst during the winter.
I always miss my perfume too- I get nervous that the bottle will break!! Happy packing
Hi Kath. Like all the rest I am a huge fan of your website. I read it everyday, sometimes checking 4-5 times a day for new post. I can’t wait to hear about the Montana trip. I was wondering though, you usually drink coffe and it always looks enticing so what do you usually brew and what do you put in your coffee?
We buy whole foods coffees – with a mix of local and others thrown in. I like Whole Foods Blend a lot these days. I also like Peets. We have a Cuisinart drip coffee maker and I just put a splash of milk in
I’m a big Peets fan…taste-wise and service-wise they exceed expectations. Their New Guinea Highlands is my usual, but all of their beans/blends taste superior to me.
Safe travels, Kath! Have a blast!
My husband has a thing of Redken conditioner that he uses small amounts of that is incredible. I’m pathetically in love with it. It smells amazing and makes my hair soft soft soft!
I love that chair.
I’ve gotta locate that hand cream! I can practically smell it through the screen!
I’d miss Redken hair products too. They’re classic and incomparable.
That hand cream is awesome! I love the smell *sigh* Those placemats are super cute!
Can’t wait for warmer weather,so I can have smoothies again:)
I packed a suitcase for 45 days.Not easy.I packed completely wrong:D
i am so excited to see the trip from your perspective! although packing is such a pain…but so much better than UNpacking!
have fun!
I wonder if adding actual peanuts would help the flavor of peanut sauce. Crunch nut butter?
I just can’t pack lite, it’s not in my genes (jeans
)
I usually fly Southwest and check 2 bags (free!) and take a small carry on. I ‘don’t leave home without it!’
I just like to have my things, can you tell?!
J.R. Watkins is awesome! And they’re a MN company!
I used peanut flour to make spread for toast with mashed banana, a little chocolate soy milk, and salt. My sister was impressed.
Hope you have a great trip!
I love the Juicy Couture perfume. Courtney and I got it for Christmas, and the smell is amazing. Seriously, I have gotten so many compliements on how good I smell, and the funny thing is they were all from guys!
Target (well, my local Target at least) carries a small, travel-sized version of the lemon cream! My sister picked one up for her purse, used it, and immediately went back in the store to buy another to send to me (so I guess it is at her Texas Target, too!). Hope you can find one to take along – you could even carry it on!
I’m a big fan of the peanut flour as a sauce. With a little salt I think it tastes pretty close to the real thing – with more bulk. Always a bonus
.
Have a fun trip! That mug is so cute, where did you get it from?
OpenSky – and there’s a deal going out on them next week if you Follow me (see the KERF Shop page)
Have you come up with ideas for meals while you are gone on the trip? I struggle with maintaining my normal routines when I am on the road sometimes.
I use that hair stuff too!!
Microwaved sweet potatoes and black beans are high on the hotel eating list!! We’ll probably eat out about 2/3 of the time though.
Good luck with packing – I hate packing for a long trip!
Bringing lots of oatmeal?
Good luck with the packing!
green mush has never looked so yummy!
I don’t mind the packing part so much…but the unpacking part is just not fun.
You now have me dreaming of Girl Scout cookies! I was recently introduced to peanut flour and adding salt makes ALL the difference, I’ve found.
love.love.love.love. that lotion….it IS like eating a cookie!!
Salt definitely makes a difference with peanut flour. It can be really bland otherwise.
Have fun on your trip! And I am a sucker for good smelling beauty products…if I use it, it HAS to smell good! Thanks for your recommendations
I live in montana! Where are you visiting? Bring warm clothes… It is wayyyy cold here!
We spent a week in Montana and Wyoming in the summer of 2010. It is a beautiful, beautiful part of the country. I hope you guys have a fantastic time, even without some of your favorites!
You’re dad is too funny! Glad that the peanut sauce was a win this time
Have a safe trip!
Good luck packing! Packing for cold weather is hard because those clothes take sooo much room. Great smoothie!
Have a great trip to MT! As a MT native, I am looking forward to seeing your adventures. Sadly, though, I am not from the area where you are traveling to, so I don’t have any good recommendations for places to visit (unless you want to drive a few hours…)! Since you’ve been before though, it sounds like you have some favorites to visit!!! Travel safe!
ooo, i loathe packing. good luck with the packing and on your trip!
Have fun in Montana! The lemon hand cream sounds great!
I hope you see a moose!
Have fun in Montana. I will be in Big Sky, MT (equi-distant between Bozeman & Yellowstone) from the 18th to the 25th!
Oh man, I’d just plan on checking a bag. 12 days in a long time and having your regular favorites with you will make it easier to be away from home. Looking forward to reading about your trip!
I love lemon girl scout cookies! Packing however, I detest (unless I’m going somewhere hot where all I need is a bikini!!) Good luck!
Love your placemats! Just adorable. Not sure how I feel about spinach in smoothies yet. I know it’s all the rage. I think I just need to bit the proverbial bullet and give it a go!
ha, my hair is addicted to that stuff; a day without it would be wrong. but you don’t have any frizz, ms. naturally straight
i’m so glad you are getting good use out of it!
I think if you have crazy curly hair (me) then you notice more of a difference with the REDKEN. I also love the juicy smell, a little bit goes a long way!
ohh that hand cream sounds like it smells so yummy!! i’d probably want to eat it!
I can’t help but re-comment that JR Watkins is from a rural MN town and we went to the museum on our honeymoon last year!!!!!!!!! Safe travels to you and Matt as you embark on your bakery adventure training:)
It was be a SIAB trend kind of a day, as I had one too– featuring coconut as well!
Good luck on packing!
I love the scent of that hand creme–but then, I love all things lemon! If you like the hand creme, try the J.R. Watkins lemon cleaning spray they sell at Target. It’s a splurge, but it makes me actually look forward to wiping things down, because of the scent in the air after each spray.
Good luck packing and have fun on your trip tomorrow
Have you thought about getting an atomizer for your perfume? They sell them at Sephora. I always have a little perfume with me that way and they’re great for travel!
Cool! Do you just spray your perfumes into it?
No, you pour the perfume into it – at Sephora they actually did it for me.
I have never heard of one but am googling it now…
Remember how frigid it will be.. and pack your silk long underwear, if you’ve got some!
HAHAHAH I love the insert about your dad… no offense, but since I dont’ have enough time or patience or ingredients to make elaborate/fun breakfasts as you, I skip the “The Mix” parts, too. I love looking at the pics of the final product, though!
I ove my Juicy fragrance as well!
Juicy, the original, is my fav-or-ite!
Like the new additions to the photo rotator
Love me some juicy perfume! If you still want the smell, buy the roller and toss it in your purse
No banana in the green smoothie? Did it still taste good? I think I would find it way too bitter without one!
Oops!! YES there was a banana!
I made my first green smoothie (and had it in a bowl-like mug) yesterday! Still yet to find any non-gross whey-body-builder protein powder in Canberra, though, but it was still tasty without it
Thats so funny that your dad did not know what that meant! LOL
I have been wanting to try green monster oats! Are they good?
Your dad’s comment made me laugh out loud — so cute and totally something my dad would say (he comments on my blog and it’s unintentionally hilarious).
By the way, I’m kind of obsessed with your tablecloth and mug. So pretty! Do you remember where you got that tablecloth?
It’s a tea towel from Crate + Barrel
Haha, that’s so funny about your Dad – I actually do the same thing! I read everything except “The Mix”, which I always just skip over.
The girl scouts aren’t selling lemon chalets this year
