Today is National Love Your Body Day sponsored by the National Organization for Women.
The part of my body I love most is my legs. They have always been shapely, thanks to great calves inherited from my parents (who both have muscular legs too), an early love for exercise and years of soccer. When I was heavier my calf muscles disappeared for a few years, but I am so glad to have them back. <3 There have been times that I’ve wished for long, slender legs, but overall, I love my stocky muscles
Today they went with me on a great morning run. I have Girls on the Run this afternoon, but I went to bed early and woke up wanting that refreshed, energized feeling to start the day. So I went for a really short run around my neighborhood loop. Probably about 2 miles. I’ll finish the run this afternoon
Last night at EarthFare while waiting for the husband to finish cleaning up I studied the bulk food bins and came across three kinds of muesli (basically just rolled oats with stuff pre-mixed in). I picked up this kind called “35% Fruit” with raisins, apples, sunflower seeds, and a few other things. I decided to make a real muesli for breakfast and soaked it overnight in milk.
Overnight:
- 1/3 cup muesli
- 1/3 cup 2% milk
- 1/3 cup TJ’s greek yogurt
- 3 tbsp or so of wheatberries
This morning:
- 1 banana, slightly microwaved
- 2 tbsp or so of milk to loosen up the mix
- 1/4 cup Kashi Vive (LOVE IT!)
- A few walnuts
It was delicious. I’m not sure the muesli really added much. I might go for a heavier blend with more nuts and stuff next time. This could easily have just been made with rolled oats and raisins, as that’s all I really tasted.
With my new Celestial Seasonings Honey Vanilla Chai Tea!
I couldn’t believe the husband was up, showered, and ready to go at 3:15 this morning. He’s such a champ!
I’ve checked my spam folder a few times recently and noticed a few comments that weren’t jibber jabber or porn in there. If you guys ever leave a comment and it doesn’t appear, please send me an email and I’ll check the folder. This happens a lot with links too. Sometimes they go through and sometimes not. Don’t be shy to email me!
Off to get back my Organic test, then study, then GOTR, then Micro, then Pres. Debate, then it’s FALL BREAK!!!

Kath – Breakfast looks great! Glad to hear you had a great run today… nothing better than exercising in the am before the day starts…
Happy National Love Your Body Day!!
Mmm, muesli.
MY FALL BREAK BEGINS ON FRIDAY!!! Oh man, I’m too excited for proper articulation.
Enjoy the start of YOUR break today!!
microwaved banana? such a good idea!
again, your breakfast looks yummy!
and happy “Love your body day” for everyone.
I love my legs too, but not because I inherited from my parents, if not, it’s due to years of good workouts.
Have a nice day Kath!
Breakfast looks delicious – glad you got in a 2 mile run as well this morning!
Not only is it National Love Your Body Day – it’s also Blog Action Day 2008 where about 10,000 blogs are all writing about poverty. You should check it out! I plan to do my post later today.
Almost Fall Break for you – wahoo! I am jealous

Yeah for Love Your Body Day!
Aw, love your body day. That’s really sweet! I’m going to try to be extra kind to mine today if that’s the case haha.
Love the mueslied breakfast bowl. I’ve never tried muesli. I should.
Darn it, Kath… I was going to write about “National Love Your Body Day” too! Great minds think alike!
I’m so excited that you tried a new tea for me!! I love teas (herbal especially) but HATE it when I buy a box that isn’t really that good and am then stuck drinking it for the next 3 months… I don’t suppose you’d be interested in doing a round-up review of all the varieties you have tried/liked, would you?! I know, in your copious free time, right?
Yay for loving your body! I want to thank you for writing so positively about food and nutrition. I’ve been recovering from an eating disorder for a few years now, and I can count on blogs like yours for a pick me up, inspiration, or just a fun read.
Great meusli bowl!! Have a good one, and kudos to husband- wowah!!!!

I didn’t know it was National Love Your Body Day!
my favorite part of my body is my legs too.. 3 years of dancing almost 15 hours a week and my legs are strong strong strong!
Yay for loving our bodies!! I love my butt! ..which also serves as an inspiration to hit the gym on days when my feet seems to be dragging. Congrats to the husband on what appeared to be a very sucessful tofu demo last night!
Fall Break! We never got Fall break in college..toiled the whole through till Thanksgiving, but then we got the whole week off!
I often make a very similar muesli concoction and it is one of my favorite breakfasts
Poor Matt! Although, when I think about it, I think it would be cook to be at work so early, when the world is waking up around you!
When I lived by a Great Harvest, I took my daughter there when she was about 5. Every Saturday we’d play “what do I want to be when I grow up” and I’d call ahead to restaurants, the library etc. for Hannah to get a behind the scene look at different occupations.
Well we went to Great Harvest, and they could not have been nicer! She got to see how they put the dough in the machine and she pressed the button when it equally divided the loaves in 2 pounds.
The best part was when she was able to throw the divided dough balls onto the floured table for kneading! She still remembers that to this day!
Hang in there! Happy Hump Day all!
glad you liked vive—isnt it delicious?
awesome run today!
happy love your body day
woohoo for your legs girl !!
Rose,
Thanks for the FYI!
Tina ,
For sure
Jen ,
If I had the time, I totally would. I’m a big fan of black teas and usually hate anything with a berry in it. I almost always put milk in my tea too, so acidic teas don’t work for me. A bunch of reader favorites are listed on the FAQ page in the Food Questions section when I did a tea poll once last winter.
Lisa ,
Thanks for your comment
Biz ,
What a great idea to teach your daughter about different careers! Glad they were nice at GH
Kath
Kath do you heat up the muesli mix or just the banana and eat the oat mix cold? Pardon my ignorance. My favorite part of my body is also my legs, they are long and muscular from ballet.
Katie Mc,
I heated the banana separately, but I often do microwave my muesli mixtures just to take the extreme chill out of them. But I don’t make them hot.
K
I have stocky calves too, but I don’t appreciate them like you do. I guess I should; muscular calves help protect our knees from injury.
yay for love your body day….
i love…. my curvy figure! some of it is gone now that i’ve picked up running, but i’ll always have a little T&A and that’s all well and good by me!
I love Love Your Body Day. I love my legs as well – they are long and lean and lately have gotten more muscular after I switched from competitive swimming to running.
I wrote about natural skin care on my blog today – I would love anyones opinions or suggestions!
patti M, did you use to live in VA?
I’ve notice you have great legs too! Kinda jealous! Not that I don’t love my own legs. I’m just sayin! (Paranoid)
Have a great day Kath!
What a great day to promote
I think my legs are my favorite part too! They’re nice from dancing for so many years…
i think today is a great day to appreciate ourselves for sure. I love my arms. I was over a 100 pounds heavier and always thought I would have those wings…you know what im talking about under the arms. But strength training has built my arms to have definition…wingless definition
Jenn – No, I have never lived in VA, except for one summer in Charlottesville when I was in law school (loved it!). And back then, I was Patty B.
I have a cookbook (Not Your Mama’s Slowcooker recipes) and in it there are recipes to cook oatmeal a variety of ways in your crock pot over night!!
I haven’t found a great gluten free oat yet, but they all sound great!
Kath, what is your favorite of all the Great Harvest bread that the husband has brought home or that you have tried. We have one close to my home. Your museli looks heavenly .
Bev ,
So far, the High Five Fiber. It’s filled with flax seeds and so crunchy!
Kath
I think it’s really great that you love your “stocky legs” so much. As a short person myself I have always wanted long slim legs. You’ve given me a new view of my own legs.
