2010 Fun Things

January 1, 2010

Skip the millennium. Here here are 10 fun things for the new year!

[Edited to add: Totally editing this post in the AM for typos and general alcohol-induced confusion!]

#1 Corn chips. So so good. And I ate way too many. They went so well with #2

IMG_2803 (427x640)

#2 BEER!!!

IMG_2806 (640x427)

Drank too much of the good stuff. Had some OMB Mule Bock

IMG_2805 (427x640)

Bottle #26!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMG_2804 (640x427)

IMG_2810 (640x427)

#3 Moose Drool Clone

IMG_2813 (640x427)

#4 The Simpsons!!! Evening entertainment game and the best show ever [Besides Gossip Girl!]

IMG_2814 (640x427)

Tiebreaker in the game? “Who has the hairiest legs”.

#5: Matt legs won.

IMG_2818 (640x427)

I realized that tonight was the first time I drank a whole bottle of one of Matt’s homebrews myself (I usually just have tastes when he pours them). Not sure that was such a good idea!

IMG_2816 (640x427)

I was sooooo ancy tonight that I just wanted to drink beer and eat chips for entertainment

IMG_2817 (640x427)

Some pumpkin ale.

IMG_2822 (640x427)

#6: We moved to the kitchen around 8-something to prepare dinner

IMG_2824 (640x427)

#7: The entree was grass-fed beef from U.S. Wellness Meats. I’ve been saving them for a special occasion, and tonight was perfect. We actually split 2 filet mignon’s in half so each couple got one – ’twas the perfect portion. Thawing the frozen filets in their package and cooking them was very easy.

IMG_2825 (640x427)

#8: Butternut squash risotto. Amanda used a MyRecipes.com recipe.

IMG_2828 (640x427)

We partied in the kitchen

IMG_2831 (427x640) IMG_2833 (427x640)

And dinner was served…

IMG_2835 (640x427)

The meat was perfectly rarely cooked by Matt and just how I love it. It was so nice to know it came from a good source.

IMG_2845 (640x427)

Kale, steamed in white wine, maple syrup and olive oil with salt and pepper until it turned bright green.

IMG_2846 (640x427)

Amazing butternut squash risotto – amazing. Classic with wine, garlic, nutmeg, parmesan, and chicken broth.

IMG_2848 (640x427)

IMG_2840 (640x427)

I had a lot more wine with dinner!!!!!

IMG_2838 (427x640)

#9: Dessert was just delicious dark chocolates

IMG_2849 (640x427)

I had at least one of each flavor

IMG_2850 (640x427)

Wii was played

IMG_2851 (640x427)

And at 11:45 the new year ball drop was put on

IMG_2854 (640x427)

#10: Champagne was popped

IMG_2852 (640x427)

Ha-ppy New Year!!!

All of the eats you had today looked amazing, but I do not think that I could eat that raw of meat!! I am a person that wants my meat “well- dead” I dont like to see the blood at all!! Also, does the Inn you are staying at allow you to use their kitchen or is there a kitchen in your room??

Reply

5 Kath January 1, 2010 at 11:07 am

We are allowed to use the big kitchen at the inn.

I had lotsa chocolate tonight too :) My pops just got corn chips from TJ’s that I’ll probably have one too many of in our long car ride to Florida!! Too bad there won’t be beer to pair it up with since I’ll be doing a leg of driving :(

Bonne année! The beef looks delicious. I have recently been trying to limit my meat & seafood consumption and, on the few occasions when I do eat them, I splurge on more ethically produced stuff. It’s shocking how great a difference it makes! And a little scary…

I used to eat smoked salmon all the time (cheap, grocery store brand stuff). I quit buying it, and recently had a very good quality smoked salmon on Christmas Eve this year. To compare the latter to the former, would be like matching salty pink playdough against…well, real fish.

I absolutely LOVE BHI, but have spent very little time there, since I’m always out on the beach or in a golf cart…ha! (no cars allowed on the island)
Nice to see someone else enjoying that beautiful place! I’m sure I’d use the kitchen much more if I vacayed there at New Yr’s instead of in the summer!

:-)
It all looks delish, by the way!
